Times-Tribune Staff Report
An allegedly intoxicated driver faces 10 counts of wanton endangerment after nearly striking two cars on U.S. 25E — one of them belonging to a sheriff’s deputy.
At about 1 a.m. Friday morning, Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Eubanks received a report of a car heading north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 25E in Gray.
The car had almost hit another vehicle head-on at the 14-mile marker, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.
Eubanks met up with the vehicle at the 19-mile marker and had to swerve to avoid his own head-on collision with the car, the release stated.
Eubanks stopped the driver at the 20-mile marker and arrested Larry J. Stephens, 46, of Fort Wright, Ky., with 10 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Bunch additionally charged him with driving under the influence, no insurance, and reckless driving.
Stephens was released from the Knox County Detention Center Friday afternoon, according to the jail’s online records.
