Ken-Tenn Relief Team is accepting donations of needed supplies that will be shipped to Haiti as the country continues to rebuild after a devastating earthquake last month.
Ken-Tenn, based in Williamsburg, is working with G.O. (Global Outreach) Ministries Inc. of Louisville to ship supplies to Haiti using free warehouse space and a fleet of private pilots who are donating their time and fuel to help.
Needed items include bandages, gauze, tape, antibiotics, baby formula, tents, tarps, blankets, sheets, rope, candles, flashlights, headlamps, batteries and much more. A complete list of accepted items can be found at www.gohelphaiti.org/content/urgent-needs.
Items not on the necessities list will not be accepted.
Donated items must be packaged in sealed boxes of not more than 50 pounds each.
Ken-Tenn Director Jim Paul said G.O. Ministries has so far sent a dozen flights out of Louisville with more than 280,000 pounds of Haiti-bound supplies.
Locally, items are being collected at Oak Grove Elementary, Corbin Middle School, Ellison Funeral Home in Williamsburg, and Burkmann Feeds in London through Tuesday.
The locally-donated items will be trucked from the Tri-County to Louisville where they will be flown to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., then flown to the Dominican Republic, and finally trucked into Haiti.
The journey takes about two weeks before the supplies will reach Haiti, Paul said.
