A 14-year-old was struck Tuesday after the teen ran into the path of an SUV driven by a Pineville man, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Smith.
The teen was struck before 3:30 p.m. as Michael Goodin, 59, drove a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer north on U.S. 25E about six miles south of Barbourville, Smith said.
An adult, as well as two of the teen’s friends, witnessed the accident, Smith said. Those witnesses told Smith, Goodin tried to brake when the teen ran onto the highway but was unable to stop.
When Smith arrived, the teen was lying down but was conscious and talking. The teen, who suffered scrapes, was airlifted to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Smith said speed is not believed to be a factor.
