An interstate traffic stop led two Mansfield, Ohio residents to the Laurel County Correctional Center Monday afternoon.
Kentucky State Trooper First Class Don Trosper said the KSP Post 11 Criminal Interdiction Team stopped a 1999 Chevrolet Astro work van along I-75 for traffic violations.
The driver, Burke W. Webb, 52, and the passenger, Calvin C. Caldwell, 54, were questioned by officers during the stop.
According to Trosper, the two men could not produce identification. He added the two men offered conflicting accounts as to their travel history.
That led to further investigation by officers, who dispatched a K-9 unit to the scene. The drug dog located 869 Oxycodone pills hidden in the van’s dashboard, according to Trosper.
Caldwell was also allegedly in possession of “a large amount” of cash.
KSP Sgt. Lafe Owens arrested the two men. They now face charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance. Both men are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Others assisting in the stop were troopers Ryan Loudermilk, James Moore and Jason McCowan.
