CORBIN —

A Fourmile woman who admitted to a 911 dispatcher she shot Earl Carter in November appeared in Knox County Circuit Court Tuesday.
Charlene Sue King, 49, faces murder charges after allegedly shooting 75-year-old Carter in the chest at his J. Goodin Branch Road home.
She pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday, and was placed under a $200,000 cash bond.
According to Kentucky State Trooper Shane Jacobs, King was living with Carter at the time of the shooting.
On a recorded 911 call obtained by the Times-Tribune through an open records request, King tells the dispatcher “there’s been an incident.”
When asked by the dispatcher why she shot Carter, King said “he was trying to follow me.”
“He was trying to rape you?” asked the dispatcher.
“He was trying to take advantage of me,” she said.
However, Carter’s stepson, Gary Craig, of Corbin, doesn’t believe that. “This thing about ‘he was trying to rape me’ — I just don’t buy it,” he said, adding his father had heart problems. “When I heard her (King) say that it bothered me a lot.”
