Denny Brown, 8, is recuperating nicely from surgery after he was struck by a car while riding his bike.
Cassandra Brown, his mother, said Monday that over the weekend, pins had been put into his shoulder. They will be removed in about six weeks.
His mother said Denny was bicycling south on KY 3439, formerly U.S. 25 in the Boone Heights area when he was struck by a car.
Denny was heading home about 7:30 p.m. Friday night, to check in, she said.
The collision happened as Denny approached Roadside Baptist Church, where he would have taken a shortcut off the highway toward home.
As he turned right, the car struck his rear tire, throwing him across a fence and into a grassy area, where he said he woke up, his mother said.
He was taken to Knox County Hospital, then transferred to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
According to state police, Denny had pulled into the path of Martha J. Elliott of Bimble.
She was not injured but was charged with driving on an expired license and having no insurance.
Harlan Post KSP Trooper Jacob Wilson is investigating the incident.
