Corbin woman’s home catches fire early Tuesday

CORBIN — By Becky Manley / Staff Writer

West Knox Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire early Tuesday morning that began after a Corbin woman turned on her heat, according to Chief Darryl Baker.

The woman told firefighters she heard unusual noises then saw smoke around a light fixture, Baker said.

About 10 West Knox firefighters responded and the fire, which was contained to the heater and ductwork, was extinguished in about 20 minutes, Baker said. Firefighters remained at the home for about an hour.

It is believed material that had built up inside the heater ignited when the woman turned the heat on, Baker said.

Nobody was injured in the fire.
