CORBIN —
Rudell (Granny) Childers, age 92, of Corbin, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin. Mrs. Childers was a native of the Wilton and Knox County community.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1920, to the late Rev. Richard and Minnie Belle Martin.
Mrs. Childers was a homemaker and was of Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, O’Neil K (Bone) Childers; six brothers : Almond Buck Martin, Chester Howard Martin, Phillip Lacy Martin ,Ubert Glen Martin, Reed Colby Martin, Leonard Alexander Martin; three sisters: Mellie Etter Martin, Maggie Maydaline Martin, Tabitha (Ann) Baker; a sister-in-law, Jackie Martin; brothers-in-law Guy Johnson and Charlie Baker.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ann Wells and husband Bill, of Corbin; two sons: Charles Ray Childers, of Owensboro, and Rex Lee Childers, of Corbin; and one sister, Nettie May, of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; special friends Mattie Lou Childers, loving neighbors, Harold and Penny Ward, Harold and Betty Fredrick, and a host of many other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012) at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby E. Abner officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in the Wilton Cemetery.
Visitation was from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the O’Neil-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel.
