Fifth graders at Oak Grove School on Wednesday portrayed the founding of the nation in a living diorama.
The diorama’s timeline showed the movement of U.S. history from the landing of Christopher Columbus on Espanola, now Hispaniola, in 1492 through the Revolutionary War, the 1849 gold rush and the Civil War.
Oak Grove instructor Darla Pool said this is the second year that the timeline has been produced.
She said the event teaches the students not only social studies, but also drama, particularly pantomime, and visual arts.
She said it gives the students a chance to “learn by doing.”
