Forty Corbin Independent students shared the love during a reception for the winners of the district’s “What I Love About Corbin” art contest.
Ten students from four different age categories had their artwork put on display in the lobby of Hometown Bank on Cumberland Falls Highway. Parents and students crowded the lobby Monday evening to learn which students had taken the top honors.
“We are very grateful that you all support your children’s artistic ability this much,” said Corbin Middle School art teacher and contest coordinator Angela Smith.
Brianna Rae Harvey won first place in the 1-2 grade category for a picture of Corbin Primary, her friends and her teacher, Mrs. Bramlett. Olivia Moody won first place in the 3-5 grade category for a drawing of Alley Stuff store. Isaiah Stepp won in the 6-8 grade category for a picture of the Root Beer Stand restaurant, and Jordan Jung won the 9-12 grade category for a picture of Dog Slaughter Falls.
Mayor Willard McBurney attended the reception and awarded Chelsea Brock with the Mayor’s Choice award.
Walmart, Blockbuster, Mr. Gatti’s Pizza, Tri-County Cineplex, Moonbow Coffeehouse, and Mi Casa restaurant all sponsored prizes for the winning students. Hometown Bank also sponsored the reception and refreshments, and is hosting the artwork throughout the week for a special Community Choice prize. The community is invited to stop by the bank location and vote for their favorite artwork. The winner will be announced Friday.
