WHITLEY COUNTY — After starting the season with an 0-2 record, Bosko Cupac’s Whitley County Colonels got on the winning side of things by defeating Middlesboro, 3-2.
Whitley County jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but had to hold off a furious comeback attempt by the Yellow Jackets.
“This was an excellent win for us,” Cupac said. “We needed to get a win after starting with back-to-back losses. We jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but fell asleep.”
Hunter Keltner led the way with a two-goal performance for Whitley County while teammate Jordan Brooks found the back of the net for a goal.
Cupac admitted his team could have put the game away early, but failed to take advantage of numerous shot on goals.
“We’re going in the right direction, but we’ve got to work on finishing,” he said. “We had a lot of shots, but we didn’t execute them. We will continue to work on that.”
The Colonels will play their fourth straight game at home Thursday with North Laurel paying a visit at 5 p.m.
