Only one team that enters postseason play will avoid heartbreak, and that cold fact started to set in on the South Laurel Lady Cardinals late during their 66-48 loss to Clay County in the semifinals of the 13th Region Tournament.

The Lady Tigers have had one question for their opposition all season, "how will you stop our post play?"

Like most teams who faced them, the Lady Cardinals had no answer, as Clay County scored 30 points in the paint.

“They manhandled us in the post,” South Laurel coach Konnie Snyder said. “We just couldn’t stop them. They were aggressive with posting us up.”

Erika Burchett led the Lady Cardinals with five points in the first quarter, but Clay County’s Sabrina Smith gave the Lady Tigers a 14-12 lead with a last second shot.

“Sabrina has come a long way,” Clay County coach Ivy Burchell said. “She has stepped up and made us a nice ball club.”
