Corbin senior Isaac Wilson has been a mainstay for the Redhounds for the past four years and has helped guide his team to 105 wins and two 13th Region championships in the process.
Wilson was honored for his accomplishments and was named 13th Region KABC Player of the Year.
He becomes the first Corbin player to receive the award since the 13th Region Basketball Coaches Association started giving out the award in 1995.
“You don’t look at the size of the kid, you look at the size of his heart,” Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski said. “He gets things done. He’s the best point guard I have coached and he just wants to win.”
Wilson has turned in a solid postseason by leading the Redhounds to both the 50th District and 13th Region championships, while being named MVP of both tournaments.
He scored a tournament-high 63 points in the 13th Region Tournament, which included a 43-point output during Corbin’s 88-80 four overtime win against Bell County.
The 43 points broke Bo Roaden’s postseason record of 42 points, which Roaden scored against Knott County Central during the 1991 Sweet Sixteen.
“This is just been great,” Wilson said after Corbin’s 65-42 win over North Laurel in the 13th Region title game on Monday. “Before the tournament, I would have never thought I would be named the MVP. But after scoring 43 points in the first game, people started talking. They were saying if we won, I would be the MVP. But I feel like I’m a leader on this team and it doesn’t matter if I score 43 or if I score one. I just want to win.”
Joining Wilson on the 13th Region All Region First Team are teammates Aaron Manns and Madison Johnson; South Laurel’s Matt St. John, Matt Gilbert and Matt Watkins; Knox Central’s Cody Miller; Clay County’s DJ Wilson and Kendale Reed; Middlesboro’s Blaine Green; Harlan County’s Jecorey Fields; North Laurel’s Adrian Wardrup; Bell County’s Ben Madon and Barbourville’s Brad Marsee.
Whitley County’s Jamie Lebanion, Michael Crawford and Jordan Akins were named to the All Second Team. The Colonel trio guided the Colonels to their first back-to-back winning seasons since the 1993-94 and 94-95 campaigns.
Joining Lebanion, Crawford and Akins were Clay County’s Codi Roberts, along with teammate Matthew Mitchell; Lynn Camp’s Brad Bargo , Tyler Wagner and Cody Mobley; Pineville’s Shawn Madon; Knox Central’s Travis Canady; North Laurel’s Raymond Shears and Cody Likins; Barbourville’s Josh Hildabrand; Williamsburg’s Daniel Pettit and Middlesboro’s Chad Cowan.
