The Lynn Camp Wildcats are still searching for their first win, while the Pineville Mountain Lions remain perfect at 2-0 as both teams are scheduled to face-off against each other Friday.
The Wildcats (0-3) are looking to avoid their worst start since going 1-7 during their first eight games of the 2000 season, while the Mountain Lions are looking to start the season 3-0 for the first time since the 1999 season when DeLynn Cline was manning the sidelines as head coach.
Pineville has been a pleasant surprise by knocking off McCreary Central, 43-6, and Berea, 48-14.
The Mountain Lions are led by running back Cody Hendrickson, who has carried the ball 31 times for 468 yards and seven touchdowns, while quarterback Jamie Roan has completed six-of-11 pass attempts for 115 yards and one touchdown.
“They are a very good team,” Lynn Camp coach David Mitchell said. “This is probably one of the best teams they’ve had in a while. They have a very good tailback and they are running the ball more this year than in year’s past.
“We need to go out there and play mistake-free football,” he added. “I know they are going to be tough.”
Elam said he is pleased with the way things have started this season for the Mountain Lions.
“Our guys are playing really well right now,” he said. “But we know Lynn Camp is going to be ready to play. They are very quick and are well-coached. Coach Mitchell does a good job with his team.”
Even though the Wildcats are winless, Mitchell said there were a lot of positives that came out of his team’s loss to Lexington Christian last week.
“We did a lot of things better and we were in the game, but a penalty with about six minutes left in the first half hurt us,” he said. “We still know we have a lot of things to work on, but I feel like things are getting better.
“This is a big game for us,” Mitchell added. “We needed to get on the plus side of things — we just need a win for our kids’ confidence.”
