Corbin blanks Bell County

CORBIN — By Tim Branstetter / Staff Writer

The Corbin Lady Redhounds took care of business with an impressive 10-0 victory over Bell County.

It was hard for Corbin coach Eric Steely to be upset with a 10-0 win, but he still found room for improvement.

“We had spells where we wanted to bunch up together,” he said. “But they moved the ball well and it was one sided the entire match.”

Kaitlin Baker stepped up to lead the Lady Redhounds with three goals, but goals by Amerah Dixon and Shelby Phillips really impressed Steely.

“Two of the prettiest goals of the game were by Amerah and Shelby,” he said. “They were highlight reel goals. Both hard shots outside of the box. They were nice.”

Dixon finished with two goals, while Whitney Baker added three assists.

“We moved the ball well,” Steely said. “Whitney did a great job of finding teammates.”

The Lady Redhounds expect a tougher game at Estill County today.

“It will be a much tougher test for us,” Steely admitted. “Bell County is a first-year team, so they are still learning and getting better. Their keeper really played hard. Estill County has a solid team. It has always been a fear of mine that the girls will develop bad habits in easy games. It could hurt you when you face a tougher opponent. So we will try to avoid that and get focused.”
