Colonels settle for tie

CORBIN — By Tim Branstetter / Staff Writer

The Whitley County Colonels battled back, but were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie as they scored in the final seconds against Perry Central.

“We came out flat,” Whitley County coach Bosko Cupac said. “We finally started passing the ball and finding our outside mids. We started getting our crosses in and were able to get better looks.”

Perry Central took a 1-0 lead halfway through the first half, but the Colonels kept battling.

With under 30 seconds remaining in the game, Seth McCoy scored on a penalty kick to tie the score at 1-1.

“We came out much more strong and focused in the second half,” Cupac said. “We had a lot of opportunities to score, but couldn’t finish. So I have mixed emotions, I would like to start off better, but I am pleased with the way we didn’t give up and we were able to battle back and tie the score.”

Josh Couch and Dakota Perkins stepped up and impressed Cupac during their comeback effort.

“Josh and Dakota stepped up and made a lot of good crosses,” he said. “I was really impressed. I just wish it wouldn’t have taken us until the second half, but I’m glad we finally got going.”

Cupac admitted he does not want his team to be labled.

“I don’t want to be titled as a second half team,” he added. “I want us to be focused and ready from horn to horn. I want us to play hard all the time and always be ready to compete.”
