LONDON — The South Laurel Lady Cardinals snapped a three-game losing streak Monday, knocking off cross-town rival North Laurel with ease, 77-42.
Taylor Arthur and Emily Clonce led the way for the Lady Cardinals, tallying 19 points apiece. Cassandra Johnson added 17 en route to the win.
South Laurel took control early and never looked back, grabbing a 24-6 lead by the time the first quarter came to a close.
The Lady Jaguars played even with South Laurel in the second quarter, but still trailed 36-18 as halftime rolled around.
South Laurel stepped on the gas again as the third quarter got underway, extending its lead to 58-32 by the end of the third period.
A 19-12 fourth quarter effort extended the lead to 77-42 as the game wound down, sending the Lady Cardinals to the win.
South Laurel improves to 8-10 on the season, while North Laurel falls to 2-15 with the loss.
The Lady Cardinals will be back in action Friday when they travel to Whitley County for a 50th District showdown with the Lady Colonels.
North Laurel will travel to Corbin Friday to face the Lady Redhounds.
