MIDDLESBORO — The Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats continued to impress Monday, picking up a 56-41 win over Middlesboro on the road.
The win is the third straight for Lynn Camp and improves the Lady Wildcats’ record to 16-6 on the season. It also puts the team one win shy of tying the record for most wins in a season at 17, set during the 2001-02 season.
Kayla Smith led the way for Lynn Camp with 17 points, while Heather Wilson wasn’t far behind with 16 in the win.
Middlesboro’s Blair Green led all scorers in the game with 20 points, but that wasn’t enough to save her team from the loss.
After the win, Lynn Camp assistant coach Mike Hensley said the staff was pleased with the effort of the Lady Wildcats in the win.
“They played well in spurts,” Hensley said. “We have to get 32 minutes of solid play and when we do that, we will be really good.
“Heather Wilson really stepped up big and had some huge offensive rebounds tonight,” he added. “We had a couple of girls that were sick, but we were able to fight through it.”
Lynn Camp led 15-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Jackets recovered with a 17-8 second-quarter effort to tie things up at 23 apiece as the teams headed for the locker room at halftime.
Both teams played even in the third period, scoring 10 points each in the quarter, to leave the score tied (33 all) with eight minutes to play, but that’s when things got away from Middlesboro.
Wilson scored nine of her 16 points in the final period as the Lady Wildcats outscored Middlesboro 23-8 in the fourth quarter to account for the 56-41 win.
Lynn Camp will be back in action Thursday when they travel to Barbourville to face the Lady Tigers in a 51st District showdown.
