The South Laurel Lady Cardinals may have lost 7-0 to Boyle County, but coach Todd White is not concerned about his team. After all they were without one of their top players, Katie White.
“We were by far overmatched tonight,” he said. “They are a top 25 team and they have real high level players.”
Katie White was sidelined with the flu and several other players were also under the weather.
“It really hurt us having Katie out,” White said. “She is a big part of our team. We also had other girls not feeling well.”
South Laurel held their own by holding Boyle County scoreless for the first 33 minutes of the match, but trailed 3-0 at the half.
The Lady Cardinals are not dodging tough competition this season as they suffered losses to Anderson County, Henry Clay and Lexington Dunbar, all of which are top ranked teams.
“I’m just trying to let my girls see what good soccer is,” White said. “Hopefully over time it will sink in. If you are ever going to have any success you have to play the toughest teams.”
White knows his team will be ready when they face North Laurel.
“It was a 7-0 loss, but my team is better than that,” he said. “They are not seven goals better than us. When we play North Laurel we will see what Southeastern Kentucky soccer is. If we don’t win by three goals or more I will be surprised.”
