Corbin had three players to score in double figures during their 59-46 win over Pendleton County in first round action of the cumberland Falls Lady Redhound Invitational.
Hailey Smith led the way with 14 points, while Miranda Wilson (12 points) and Shai Roaden (10 points) also scored in double figures.
“I thought everyone did a good job tonight,” Corbin coach Jennifer Parsons said. “I thought we came out and set the tempo defensively tonight. We forced a lot of turnovers and that set the pace for the game.”
Corbin (4-3) raced out to a 17-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
“I thought we did a good job of running our offense in the first half and that allowed us to to get the lead,” Parsons said.
The Lady Redhounds continued to dominate in the second quarter and built a commanding 32-13 lead at halftime.
Pendleton County rallied in the third quarter and cut its deficit to 13 points (33-20) with 4:01 remaining, but Corbin managed to take a 43-27 lead into the fourth quarter after only hitting on four-of16 shot attempts during the quarter.
“We didn’t have a good shot selection in the third quarter and that hurt us some,” Parsons said.
Corbin wrapped up the win in the fourth quarter, despite getting outscored, 19-16.
The Lady Redhounds will play Bracken County today at 9:15 p.m.
