CORBIN —

CLAY COUNTY – The North Laurel Minor League All-Stars got a big boost from Colby Howard as they pulled off a 16-5 win over Corbin White in five innings to claim the Area 2 Championship Thursday.
With his team clinging to a 9-5 lead, Howard stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a grand slam to give North Green a 13-5 advantage.
“I think that closed the game,” North Laurel Green coach Jason VanHook said. “That put the wind in our sails and took it out of theirs. He had never had a homerun over the fence in a game, until tonight. He must have hit it 240 yards. He is one of the hardest power hitters we’ve got.”
North Laurel Green felt good after grabbing a 4-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, but Corbin White responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to close the gap at 4-3.
Howard started the game for North Laurel Green and Cameron Cotton took over after three innings.
