The good news for the Lynn Camp Wildcats? They finally got their first three games out of the way.
The bad news?
They went 0-3 during the process.
David Mitchell’s squad fell to 0-3 on the season for the third time in 10 years, as visiting Lexington Christian handed Lynn Camp a 43-20 loss.
The game was closer than the final score indictated, as the Wildcats were driving late in the second half and it looked like they were going to take the lead.
With the score tied at seven apiece, Lynn Camp broke open a big play and moved inside the Eagle 10-yard line, but a penalty thwarted the drive and Lexington Christian took advantage of Lynn Camp’s missed opportunity.
The Eagles scored two quick touchdowns to end the first half to take a 21-7 lead and never looked back.
“It was a tough loss,” Lynn Camp coach David Mitchell said. “That drive late in the first half was crucial. If we could have scored at that point, I really believe it could have been a different ballgame.
“That penalty moved us from their six-yard line our 40-yard line. That’s how big of a penaty it was,” he added.
Despite the loss, Mitchell said he was encouraged of the effort the Wildcats gave against Lexington Christian.
“I feel like things are getting better,” he said. “We just got to keep playing hard. We really competed tonight and if we can keep doing that, I believe we’re going to get on track.”
The Wildcats will be back in action Friday against Pineville.
