South Laurel rebounds; North falls on the road

South Laurel bounced back from a tough loss to North Laurel by upending 12th Region power Casey County 64-50 on the road, but the Lady Jaguars were not as fortunate as they followed their emotional win with a tough 61-38 loss on the road to Rockcastle County.

• South Laurel 64, Casey County 50

The Lady Cardinals trailed 20-17 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Lady Rebels 22-13 to grab a 39-33 lead at the half and held on for a 64-50 win over Casey County. Jessica Dean led all scorers with 27 points on the night.

The lead remained the same at the end of the third quarter with both teams picking up their defense and only allowing six points, but the Lady Cardinals extended their lead by outscoring their opponents 19-11 in the final frame.

Erika Burchett scored 13 points, while Andi House added 11 points on the night.

•Rockcastle County 61, North Laurel 38

The Lady Jaguars were coming off a big win over South Laurel, but could not make it two straight road wins as they dropped a tough 61-38 decision to Rockcastle County.

North Laurel was outscored 20-9 in the first quarter and trailed 36-17 at the half. Tamara Crawford led the Lady Jaguars with 13 points and was the only North Laurel player in double figures. Cheyenne Madden added nine points for the game.

Rockcastle County extended their lead to 50-24 after three quarters of play, before the Lady Jaguars finally won a quarter by outscoring the Lady Rockets 14-11 in the fourth.
