CORBIN —
For the second straight year, Knox Central’s Jeffrey Canady has captured the Times-Tribune Football Player of the Year award. It marks the first time a player has won the award in consecutive seasons.
“Jeffrey is a top-notch player and is very deserving of the award,” Knox Central coach Scottie Russell said. “Any time a player can win an award two straight years, it goes to show you just how good of a player they are.”
Canady played a big part in the Panthers’ success this season by helping them get off to a program-first 8-0 record along with a program-record 10 wins.
“We’ve accomplished a lot the past few years and Jeffrey has been a big reason we’ve done so,” Russell
said.
“He’s a great punter, defensive player and offensive player and he was a great leader, too,” he added. “A lot of teams keyed on him this season and that allowed other players to step up and do the job.”
Canady finished the 2012 season with a Tri-County best 2,013 yards, 257 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns. He also had a punting average of 48 yards and recorded 77 tackles on defense while grabbing two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
“Players like Jeffrey don’t come around often,” Russell said. “It’s been a pleasure and honor to coach him. He has great work ethic and has always been a good leader. He’s a special player and deserves the award. Winning this Player of the Year award is big for him and Knox Central High School.”
