NORTH LAUREL — The North Laurel Lady Jaguars were able to pick up their first win of the season, cruising past Jackson County 53-28 in a 49th District contest.
North Laurel’s Ashley Wyatt paced the Lady Jaguars with 13 points, while Hannah Gray added 12 in the win.
North Laurel led early and never looked back after taking a 26-15 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Jaguars outscored Jackson County 18-10 in the third period, extending the lead to 44-25 with one quarter left to play. The pace slowed as the game wound down, but North Laurel was able to extend the lead en route to the 53-28 win.
Afterwards, North Laurel head coach Eddie Mahan said he was pleased with the way his team played, but was quick to point out it still had a long way to go to get where they want to be.
“I’m pleased with the way the girl played and with their aggressiveness,” Mahan said. “I think that’s the way we’re going to have to play if we are going to win any games this season.
“We’ve been trying to do that in our previous games, but we weren’t shooting the ball very well,” he added.
