Jerry Herron’s Williamsburg Yellow Jackets got back to their winning ways after a solid week of practice by defeating visiting Harlan, 32-14.

“We spent all week in practice saying that we were going to top the run and I was really pleased with the effort of the defense,” Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron said.

Both teams struggled during the first quarter on offense, but the Yellow Jackets managed to get on the scoreboard with :07 remaining as Ethan Powers and James Payne hooked up for a 27-yard touchdown connection to make the score, 8-0.

Powers increased Williamsburg’ lead to 16-0 in the second quarter with a three-yard run, while Harlan cut its deficit to eight points (16-8) right before the end of the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets took control of the game in the third quarter, as Powers’ second rushing touchdown with 4:07 left in the third quarter capped off a nine-play, 85-yard drive to give his team a commanding 24-8 lead.

The Green Dragons scored with less than four minutes in the fourth quarter to make the score, 24-14, but Kevin Hoffman (61 yards rushing, 53 yards receiving) added another touchdown for Williamsburg with less than a minute remaining in the game to give the Yellow Jackets an 18-point win.
