Lady Cats hold off Pineville in 59-55 win

PINEVILLE — The Lynn Camp Lady Cats faced off against Pineville for the second time in as many games Thursday, coming away with a 59-55 victory.

The final score was much closer than the last time the two played as the Lady Cats cruised to a 54-20 victory. This time Lynn Camp had to overcome a 42-41 deficit to start the third quarter, but did so thanks to going perfect from the free throw line (six-of-six) in the final period.

Lynn Camp assistant coach Mike Hensley said the staff was pleased with the win and the way the Lady Cats performed on offense.

“This was a nice win for us coming off Christmas break,” Hensley said. “We had a balanced attack tonight, placing four girls in double figures.

“We established Jessica May down in the post and she responded with a great game for us,” he added.

Kayla Smith, along with May, led the way for Lynn Camp, scoring 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Lynn Camp took a 12-8 lead after the first quarter, but the two teams played even in the second quarter to maintain the four-point lead (26-22).

Pineville bested the Lady Cats 20-15 in the third period, grabbing the one-point lead with eight minutes to play.
