BARBOURVILLE — The Barbourville Lady Tigers came into Monday’s showdown with Knox Central looking to rebound from consecutive losses for the first time this season after falling to Lynn Camp and Wayne County last week.
Bounce back is exactly what they did, cruising to the 72-47 win, thanks to the efforts of Kara and Kelsey Erslan, who tallied 22 and 20 points, respectively.
“This was a good win for us and was happy with the way the girls responded after the two losses,” Barbourville coach Andrea Hillard said. “While I love the win, I’m more pleased with the way the girls refused to go back into their shells and become the kind of team we were last season when we had these kind of losses.
“To be able to come back and play like we did really builds our momentum,” she added. “The kind of momentum we gained tonight is the kind that can carry us the rest of the season.”
Barbourville took control early on in the game, outscoring the Lady Panthers 21-7 in the first quarter before extending the lead to 39-19 at the half.
A 21-10 third-quarter effort pushed the gap to 60-29 with eight minutes to play in the game.
Knox Central was able to get the best of the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 18-12, but it wasn’t enough.
Barbourville improved to 13-5 on the season, while Knox Central falls 10-7.
