CORBIN — If I have to say so myself, I did pretty good picking the 13th Region Tournament’s boys’ and girls’ games. Putting together an 11-3 record isn’t too shabby, huh?
Now it’s time to tackle the 2010 KHSAA Girls Houchens Industries Sweet Sixteen.
But before I do, I’m going to give my thoughts on the tournament.
• This year’s field of 16 teams could be the best in a long time. Wednesday’s first round showdown between Marion County and Louisville Mercy has the makings of a classic.
Marion County enters the tournament as the team to beat, but there are a lot of teams that have the ability to make a run.
If I have to go out on a limb today and make my Final Four picks, then it would be Marion County, Clay County, Scott County and Rockcastle County.
That’s right, two teams not too far from here playing on Saturday — I really believe it will happen.
I just don’t see Clay County getting past Marion County, though, but don’t be surprised to see Rockcastle County reach the championship game before falling to the Lady Knights.
Yep, Marion County is my pick to cut down the nets in Bowling Green, but I do reserve the right to change my picks as the week goes on — that’s one advantage of being the sports editor. I just hope I finish over 70 percent this week — picking these games isn’t as easy as the regional tournament games.

Interesting week ahead for local teams
Believe it or not, in just two days the postseason will begin for our baseball and softball teams in the Tri-County and with that said, it’s time for me to pull out my old trusty crystal ball and give my two cents worth on what to expect once postseason play begins.

Fear 'Les' Diamond Ratings
The Lady Jaguars are winners of 14 straight, but if they hadn’t turned in a solid showing against McCreary Central, I was close to moving them to the No. 2 spot.

Mitchell might be back on the sidelines sooner than later
It’s been two days since former Lynn Camp coach David Mitchell was informed he was fired and from what I’m hearing, it might not be long at all before Mitchell is back on the sideline coaching.

So who will UK replace with Indiana and North Carolina?
I sure hate to see Kentucky drop Indiana and North Carolina from its schedule. I love to watch Kentucky play those two storied programs, and I really don’t know how you could replace them on the schedule.

Big Blue fantasy draft
