Teaching more than just the game of baseball ...
Les Dixon
How do I know it’s summer time?
Well, we’re into full swing with Minor and Little League baseball and softball action.
With that said, it’s time to ramble.
• South London’s 12-year-old All Star team
Jeff Neal’s South London All Stars could be the best I’ve covered in a long time. South London has the size, offense, defense and pitching to go deep into post-season play. South London was crowned Area champions this past Sunday and now have their eyes set on winning the District championship, which they will host, beginning on July 6.
Can they do it? I believe they can, but local teams Knox County, North Laurel and Williamsburg also have a shot, too.
• Best Little League All Star uniform
Last season I went with the North Laurel All Stars uniforms. But this season, the best looking uniforms have to go to the Corbin Little League All Stars.
Corbin has the best — hands down. The logo is great and I also like how a smaller image of the logo was printed on the pants.
• Corbin and South London have been great hosts
I have to give two thumbs up to the jobs both the Corbin Little League and South London Little League did in hosting the Minor and Little League Boys Area Tournaments.
Corbin President Jeff Chadwell and Marlan Sams did a fantastic job, and the same goes to South London President J.R. Smith. Both sites provided a great atmosphere for the fans and players of the respective teams that participated and South London’s free food and drinks for all of the media covering the games was a great idea, if I have to say so myself.

Selection committee not kind to Kentucky
Are you kidding me? Texas an eight seed? I think this year's “Selection Sunday” should be renamed Duke’s “walk in the park.”

Les Dixon's Daily Sweet Sixteen Pick 'ems
If I have to say so myself, I did pretty good picking the 13th Region Tournament’s boys’ and girls’ games. Putting together an 11-3 record isn’t too shabby, huh?

It’s time to look ahead to next year’s top teams in the region
Well, the 13th Region Tournament is over and that means some relaxation for most media, but not for me. I’ll be back in action covering high school basketball games at the 93rd Annual PNC Bank Sweet Sixteen next week.

Tim Branstetter - The Way It Should Be
First of all, I would like to congratulate the Redhounds on winning the 13th Region Championship. They went through the entire season with a target on their back and they continued to work hard and get better every day.

Les Dixon's 13th Region Pick 'ems
Boy, what a grinding week. Things have been great at The Arena and today should be a VERY exciting day with three games on tap. My record stands at a impressive 8-2, so I guess it’s time to pick away again.

Les Dixon - The Way It Is
It’s another day in the books and I’ll be honest, I’m very, very tired. I believe the Times-Tribune and the Harlan Daily Enterprise are the only two print media that has covered the entire 13th Region Tournament.

Les Dixon's 13th Region Pick 'ems
This is a first for me. I’m 4-0 and still going strong with my pick’ems. Today’s games get a bit harder, but hopefully, I’ll be able to keep my record perfect for at least another day.

Les Dixon - The Way It Is
The second day at the 13th Region Tournament was just as good as the first day — actually even better.
