How ‘bout them Yankees?
I can hear your disdain from here, but why do you really hate them? I mean if they are your team's rivals then, OK, hate the Yankees, but if not — what’s the problem?
I grew up an Orioles fan. Yes, they are terrible and the AL East rivals of the New York Yankees, but I don't hate.
I’ve heard them all. The best team money can buy. Offense wins games, but the Boss' checkbook wins championships and the list goes on. I say, the system is broken and the Steinbrenners should be applauded for doing what it takes.
Even with the “best team money can buy”, the Empire went nine years without a title and missed the playoffs entirely last season. Congrats to the Yankees on No. 27. Don't hate the player, hate the game.
So, what happened to parody in the NFL?
Doesn’t it seem this year that teams are either really good or really, really bad. There doesn't appear to be any middle of the road squads or those teams that appear out of nowhere to beat the upper echelon.
I don't know.
Maybe I am a disgruntled Redskins fan, but it just doesn't feel like there is an Arizona Cardinals team poised to come out of nowhere to the Super Bowl like last season or the New York Giants of the year before. Who knows, maybe there will be a surprise — there's plenty of football left.
College basketball officially started a couple of days ago.
It feels like it was yesterday that we were counting down the days to the football season. Don't get me wrong — I have loved the gridiron and still do, but the hardwood really revs my engine.
Of course the entire state is revved up about the Wildcats and their potential — this humble writer is excited for what could be as well.
The previous statement should be taken with caution as it should not be mistaken for the undefeated expectations that some are putting on Cal's Cats.
But, my enthusiasm for basketball doesn't fully rely on UK as there is plenty of great round ball across the state.
The Bluegrass State has so much to offer at every level this season. We have already seen Georgetown College of the NAIA play well against the University of Louisville, and Tuesday the Murray State Racers gave the University of California (the No. 12 team in the country) a run for their money as the Golden Bears could only muster a five point victory over a team from the Ohio Valley Conference.
Of course, high school basketball in the Commonwealth is always very good and it should be another exciting season.

The front-runners for the boys and girls Players of the Year are ...
The past two weeks I’ve been bombarded by high school basketball fans on who will be the 2011 Times-Tribune Boys and Girls Prep Basketball Tri-County Players of the Year.
