Steve Jewell’s Corbin Redhounds were needing a win to stir things up for the district’s No. 1 seed, but rival Bell County would take no part in it by defeating the Redhounds at Campbell Field Friday.
After stringing together a 47-game district win streak, the Redhounds have lost three district games during the past two years.
The loss means Corbin will now hit the road during first round action of the Class 3A playoffs — and the road hasn’t been kind to the Redhounds in post-season play.
Jewell’s squad has lost five straight playoff games (2003, 06, 07, 09 and 11) and haven’t won on the road in the playoffs since defeating Green County, 48-19, back on Nov. 17, 2000.
All is not lost, though. This is a good Corbin team. Jewell’s squad should win the remainder of their regular season games and be on a roll once the playoffs begin.
It looks like the Redhounds’ first round foe could be LaRue County (4-3), which, in turn, could be a winnable game for Corbin.
