A pre-trial conference set for Monday for former Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge has been postponed due to concerns of the Kentucky Bureau of Prisons, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Allen Trimble.
Trimble is currently trying to mediate with the Bureau of Prisons to work out their concerns regarding how Hodge was handled the last time he was brought to Whitley County for his first pretrial conference in early February.
Hodge, who is now serving his 15-and-a-half-year sentence for money laundering, extortion and drug distribution at Elkton Federal Prison in Ohio, was brought by federal agents to Whitley County for the brief pretrial conference on Feb. 6. He appeared with his attorneys before Senior Judge James Bowling.
“The Bureau has raised some questions and concerns about how Hodge was handled the last time he was down here — it has been alleged that he was allowed to visit some people,” Trimble said, explaining he did not know who Hodge had been allowed to visit.
“Of course the presiding judge and I had no knowledge about it,” Trimble said.
The pretrial conference is postponed until the matter is resolved with the Bureau of Prisons, according to Trimble.
The Bureau of Prisons would not comment on the matter.
“We do not comment on internal deliberations regarding inmate matters,” said Kentucky Bureau of Prisons Public Information Officer Edmond Ross.
Hodge faces 21 state charges of abuse of public trust and evidence tampering.
