BREAKING NEWS - Former Whitley County Sheriff's bookkeeper sentenced to 1 year

CORBIN — Former Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge's bookkeeper, Abby Vicky Paul, 51, was handed a one year sentence Thursday in London's U.S Federal Court.

Paul pleaded guilty in May to felony embezzlement before U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove.

Paul was ordered to serve six months in prison and six months home detention followed by three years supervised probation.

During her May court appearance, Paul admitted that Hodge had begun taking money his first year in office and she admitted altering the books to conceal the missing money.

The plea agreement called for a maximum of 10 years imprisonment, three years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000. Paul agreed to pay a $25,000 restitution to the Whitley County government.
