CORBIN —
By Bobbie Poynter/ Community Editor
Robert and Kathryn White met at a church in Texas when Kathryn was merely 13 years old and have been a couple ever since.
There was no formal proposal of marriage. The young couple even picked out their rings together.
“We simply grew into knowing we were going to get married,” said Kathryn.
The Whites, were married Jan. 17, 1964 in Fort Worth, Texas, and have been married nearly 50 years now.
The couple has two children, Darline Ballou of Maryland, and Stephen White, a student at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas.
They have one grandchild, 10-year-old Michael White.
Robert is a semi-retired minister who still puts in 20 hours a week at the Chaplain at St. Joseph-London Hospital. Kathryn retired in 2011 from the library at Williamsburg City School.
Today, the Whites spend much of their time helping out at Central Baptist Church in Corbin.
When asked what she felt was the key to her marriage’s longevity, Kathryn did not hesitate.
“We put our faith in God first, giving our lives over to Him. That’s just made all the difference. And we’re great friends to each other.”
The Times-Tribune would like to thank our sponsors for the following generous gift donations for our winning couple: a dozen roses from Merry’s Flowers in Williamsburg a large box of chocolates from Walgreens in the Trademart Shopping Center; a Valentine’s cake from Dairy Queen; a teddy bear from Rite Aid in Corbin; and a dinner for two from Golden Corral.

Disturbing trend of hyperbole in media, politics
There is a disturbing trend of absolute hyperbole on the part of news media and political speakers. What I’m talking about is the immediate use of top shelf words like “dictator,” “fascist,” “communist,” and this really has to stop.
