CORBIN —
Two Eastern Kentuckians are in jail on several counts, including trafficking in cocaine. That’s the result of the pair being stopped by Corbin police for reckless driving last weekend.
Darrin Blankenship, 43, and Tonya Blankenship, 33, both of Stopover in Pike County, were charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (cocaine), first offense. Both also had bench warrants for them out of Pike County for possession of marijuana. In addition, Darrin Blankenship was placed under arrest for DUI, third offense.
According to Maj. Rob Jones of the Corbin Police Department, other charges included reckless driving, operating on a DUI suspended license, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both were jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center in Williamsburg.
The arrests came last Saturday just before midnight, when Patrolman Arron Peace stopped the Blankenships for reckless driving on Exit 25 of I-75 in South Corbin. It resulted with Darrin Blankenship being arrested for DUI. When their vehicle was searched, Peace found open containers of alcoholic beverages, 13 small bags of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana, digital scales and over $1,400 in cash.
Peace was assisted by Ptl. Jeff Hill, Ptl. Mike Bisschop and Ptl. Ken Proffitt.
Peace is continuing the investigation.
